Deadly Pursuit SCVC Taskforce Romantic Suspense Series Book 1 A SCVC Taskforce Romantic Suspense edition by Misty Evans Romance eBooks
Deadly Pursuit is the first book in the SCVC Series. There are so many books with the same premise (group of alpha males working together either for the gov't or in private security) and this one was just in the middle. The book didn't grab me in the beginning and it took me a while to really get engaged. I never really liked the heroine that much. She came off as immature at times and well stalkerish at others. (She has a picture of her boss running on the beach as her screen saver for her phone and there is no relationship at this point other than boss/subordinate). I also didn't like that she was throwing herself at her boss and let everyone know about it yet she wanted to be taken seriously as a professional.
I did really like the hero. Cooper is charming and protective but also smart and believes in what he is doing. I didn't buy his falling in love with Celina but maybe that's because I didn't really liker her.
It was a decent read but with so many series out there that are similiar I'm not sure I will continue this one.

Deadly Pursuit SCVC Taskforce Romantic Suspense Series Book 1 A SCVC Taskforce Romantic Suspense edition by Misty Evans Romance eBooks Reviews
Came across this book in the "if you liked this book you might like these" section on . The description sounded interesting, so I ordered it! I am very glad that I came across this author. I had not read her books before. The story moved right along and pulled me in more as the suspense built. Celina and Cooper made an interesting pair. Their relationship seemed to take three steps forward and one step back. Both characters were strong, stubborn and intense. The "Beast" makes a good "book boyfriend". Ordered the next book in this series when I was about 1/3 of the way through. This is an author that I will definately continue to follow!
For the most part, I did like the story. I love a good romantic suspense and this was not bad. The plot with the FBI, DEA, and other law enforcement agencies working together was an awesome concept.
Celina was smart and feisty, but for a rookie she sure took a lot of risks. She was careless, too opinionated, and just plain stubborn. She actually thought she could take down a Mexican cartel by herself.
Cooper took playing hard to get to a whole new level. He definitely wanted Celina, but he fought it HARD. Putting up with Cooper's rejection time after time should have pushed Celina away. Seriously, there's only so much rejection a girl could take. I was a little frustrated with Celina chasing after Cooper because he kept putting up that darn wall. A beautiful, smart, & strong woman like Celina just comes across as obsessed and desperate. I wanted Cooper to give her something, some kind of inkling of how he felt about her.
The story has a slow start, and almost lost me in the first 20% of it.
Celina and Cooper surely have lots of chemistry, unfortunately most of it is submerged into the office politics, into the regulations of different alphabet soup agencies, and introductions of the situation, with army of secondary characters.
The suspense part of the story is engaging, with enough surprises, twists and turns to keep the interest. The tension is tangible, the action interesting, and the hand-to-hand combat scenes heart
Towards the end I started to get to know the cast, and enjoyed their interactions, even though Lana made my skin crawl. Just to get to know more about the team, I would continue to read the series.
Cooper is charming, protective, smart, 'the Beast', alpha male who likes animals and kids ~completely swoon worthy man.
Celina comes off rather childish, and deserves her nickname 'kid'. She is 14 years, 6 months, and 4 days younger than Cooper, and it shows in her behavior and decisions she makes. Since the first time they met, she has been relentlessly and openly after Cooper so that the whole team is aware of it. She was difficult to relate to, and for that reasons not easy to like either.
Overall the story was enjoyable read, and I know I want check out the next book in the series. This installment gets three spoons with a little teaspoon on the side from me..
I wanted to like this book but didn't. Celina is a twenty-four year old rookie agent assigned to an undercover task force with silent, handsome Cooper. From the moment she sets her eyes on him she's in lust. She boldly pursues him and he refuses her loud and clear...in front of colleagues !Embarrassed?? Not Celina. She continues to throw herself at him. Celina is described as so hot that many of the other male agents want her but she only wants Cooper. Cooper tells her " I've spent the last ten years with the DEA working my ass off to get where I am. I deserve the commendations in my personal file and the respect of my team as well as my superiors". He does not want to jeopardize her career or his. Horny Celina calls him out and says he won't sleep with her because " you're only worried about how sleeping with a rookie will scandalized your precious reputation as the agent in charge" Unbelievable! Of course he's concerned Celina is twenty-four he is
thirty-eight. Finally she has a one-night stand with him and thinks they have a "relationship" Of course she's hurt when nothing changes between them.
To Cooper's credit he does care about Celina but just doesn't mix his personal life with his dangerous job. At
65% of the book he's still explaining to Celina why there's no chance for them. He says " I don't sleep with women I work with. It's unprofessional and it could endanger both our jobs and our lives. It doesn't work. " Celina is unconvinced. I didn't like her and didn't want a HEA . I wanted the mobster who was after her to catch her.
Since this is a romance all her lust becomes love even though at over 80% of the book she know almost nothing personal about him!!! Since her life is at risk and he cares about her he's in love too. I only finished this book hoping Celina would be found by the mobster... Too bad Cooper saved her.
